Comodules and Landweber exact homology theories

We show that, if E is a commutative MU-algebra spectrum such that is Landweber exact over , then the category of -comodules is equivalent to a localization of the category of -comodules. This localization depends only on the heights of E at the integer primes p. It follows, for example, that the category of -comodules is equivalent to the category of -comodules. These equivalences give simple proofs and generalizations of the Miller-Ravenel and Morava change of rings theorems. We also deduce structural results about the category of -comodules. We prove that every -comodule has a primitive, we give a classification of invariant prime ideals in , and we give a version of the Landweber filtration theorem.     

Ribbon-moves for 2-knots with 1-handles attached and Khovanov-Jacobsson numbers

We prove that a crossing change along a double point circle on a -knot is realized by ribbon-moves for a knotted torus obtained from the -knot by attaching a -handle. It follows that any -knots for which the crossing change is an unknotting operation, such as ribbon -knots and twist-spun knots, have trivial Khovanov-Jacobsson number.

     

Algebraic structure in the loop space homology Bockstein spectral sequence

Let be a finite, -dimensional, -connected CW complex. We prove the following theorem:

If is an odd prime, then the loop space homology Bockstein spectral sequence modulo is a spectral sequence of universal enveloping algebras over differential graded Lie algebras.

     

Homology of Nilpotent Subalgebras of the Lie Superalgebra K(1,1).3

We calculate the dimensions of the second homology groups with trivial coefficients of nilpotent subalgebras of the Lie superalgebra , which is the natural superanalog of the Witt algebra. The proof is based on direct calculations of the rank of the differential. As an application, we find deformations of the maximal nilpotent subalgebra in .     

De Rham and Infinitesimal Cohomology in Kapranov's Model for Non commutative Algebraic Geometry

The title refers to the nilcommutative or NC-schemes introduced by M. Kapranov in Noncommutative Geometry Based on Commutator Expansions, J. Reine Angew. Math 505 (1998) 73–118. The latter are noncommutative nilpotent thickenings of commutative schemes. We also consider the parallel theory of nil-Poisson or NP-schemes, which are nilpotent thickenings of commutative schemes in the category of Poisson schemes. We study several variants of de Rham cohomology for NC- and NP-schemes. The variants include nilcommutative and nil-Poisson versions of the de Rham complex as well as of the cohomology of the infinitesimal site introduced by Grothendieck in Crystals and the de Rham Cohomology of Schemes, Dix exposés sur la cohomologie des schémas, Masson, Paris (1968), pp. 306–358. It turns out that each of these noncommutative variants admits a kind of Hodge decomposition which allows one to express the cohomology groups of a noncommutative scheme Y as a sum of copies of the usual (de Rham, infinitesimal) cohomology groups of the underlying commutative scheme X (Theorems 6.1, 6.4, 6.7). As a byproduct we obtain new proofs for classical results of Grothendieck (Corollary 6.2) and of Feigin and Tsygan (Corollary 6.8) on the relation between de Rham and infinitesimal cohomology and between the latter and periodic cyclic homology.     

Perturbed Dolbeault operators and the homology Todd class

This paper discusses the role played by perturbed Dolbeault operators in relating the coherent sheaf and elliptic operator perspectives on the homology of projective varieties. Among the consequences are index formulas for perturbed Dolbeault operators.

     

A bracket power characterization of analytic spread one ideals

The main theorem characterizes, in terms of bracket powers, analytic spread one ideals in local rings. Specifically, let be regular nonunits in a local (Noetherian) ring and assume that , the integral closure of , where . Then the main result shows that for all but finitely many units in that are non-congruent modulo and for all large integers and it holds that for and not divisible by , where is the -th bracket power of . And, conversely, if there exist positive integers , , and such that has a basis such that , then has analytic spread one.

     

On the étale Descent Problem for Topological Cyclic Homology and Algebraic K-Theory

We investigate étale descent properties of topological Hochschild and cyclic homology. Using these properties we deduce a general injectivity result for the descent map in algebraic K-theory, and show that algebraic K-theory has étale descent for rings of integers in unramified and tamely ramified p-adic fields.     

Bivariant K-Theories for C*-Algebras

A new framework for bivariant K-theory is developed. Various types of homology-cohomology theories are discussed. Our techniques can be used for producing natural elements in E-theory out of continuous fields with non-isomorphic fibers. An alternative definition for the Kasparov product in E-theory is proposed.     

The surjectivity of the canonical homomorphism from singular homology to Cech homology

Let be a locally -connected compact metric space. Then, the canonical homomorphism from the singular homology group to the Cech homology group is surjective. Consequently, if a compact metric space is locally connected, then the canonical homomorphism from to is surjective.
